Preschool pumpkin patch

My mom had these pics on her camera because this day I was in the hospital with Wes, so I am a little slow to post them.

All the Grandkids except Wes (he was still in my belly when this was taken)

The family

One of the great moments after bringing a new member into the family. (My mom, dad, and sis)
This kid sleeps so much it was nice to get a pic with his eyes open... he is looking up at his Grandma

One armed paper hanger

On tuesday night I was heading out my parents front door. Sadie followed me and ran straight out into the street while a car was coming. It was only 11 days after my C-section, but my mommy instincts kicked in and I ran for her full speed. The car saw Sadie and stopped, so she was okay, but my body was unable to keep up with my intentions. I fell on the driveway and broke my collar bone. I went to the ER and had a CATscan and Xrays.
I spent the next few days at my parents since I obviously couldn't do much of anything. My Grandma kept teasing me that I was like a one armed wall paper hanger. Apparently that was a common phrase in her day, I had never heard it but it sure describes how I feel. I must say that it is times like these where I feel loved and blessed by friends and family in a way that brings me to tears. I am so lucky to have Todd be the man that he is. I keep asking how one could ever show their parents how thankful they are for what they do for them. I will never come close! I am now recovering on a new lazy boy counting my blessings and watching everyone else change poopy diapers.

Halloween

Jane got to see her partner in crime Sophie (remember the make up incident?) She really loves that girl!
Another friend named James... they trick or treat with us, we are neighbors (Jane is lucky to have her live so close)
Sadie and her cousin David
This was how she preferred it

What a week

Our family has grown to 5. We are so happy, here are some pictures to document this eventful week.
The night before we had the baby.

Our girls, our family as we knew it!

The big day

Wes Maxwell Layton was born October 23rd. He was 6 lbs 15 ounces and 19 inches long.
He gave us quite a scare in the beginning (you can tell he isn't quite pink enough) but luckily we got to hold him for a moment before they took him away.
This pic is me saying "oh, thank goodness for these drugs"

In the NICU

I have to say that we thought the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) and staff were so wonderful. They made us feel like everything was well under control. He went there a few minutes after he was born because he was having trouble breathing. They called it respiratory distress, similar to what happens with premature lungs. It got more complicated when it came time to feeding him because he couldn't breath and eat at the same time. Both conditions just took time to conquer. He has made up for it now though. He eats like a champ.
Have you ever seen toes longer than these?????

The below picture was with all his tubes and wires, I was happy to see those come off.

These pictures are from the first day he got all his tubes and wires removed. Aside from some swelling, it was so wonderful to see what he looked like.

Home

The below pictures are from today. We got to pick him up from the NICU around noon. He was so little in that car seat!!!

He has a lot of blond hair already. It isn't long, but both the girls had dark hair that turned light.

Jane of course has melted our hearts with how happy she is to have a little brother. I can't even begin to answer all her "why ...." questions.
